Introduction:

Research activities play an integral part of training and development in the Department of Respiratory Medicine. Being a relatively new department, most of the research projects are in the planning and preamble phase.

Under the guidance of the Head of Department, Dr Richa Gupta, post graduate students are given thesis projects as part of their M.D training during which research methodology and techniques are emphasised. Focussed on improving patient care, Respiratory Medicine department is also involved in multi-department clinical trials, faculty and trainee research projects.

Areas of Research:
  1. Interstitial Lung Disease – IPF – Efficacy of Nindetanib, Systemic Sclerosis
  2. Device validation study (Artificial Intelligence) – Using cough sounds to interpret disease, correlation with pulmonary function tests
  3. Bronchoscopy – role in Hydatid disease
  4. Pleural diseases – XPERT ULTRA diagnostic yield in pleural effusion
  5. COPD – role of Impulse Oscillometry
